In the last three days, we have begun to address the issue of why, for some people, the word of the kingdom is being heard but not understood. Let's dig deeper today. One does not understand not because one is not clever, but because one does not love God and therefore, His message<\/b>. When there is no love, there is no relationship, no meaningful time will be spent together, and no real understanding can be achieved. In this condition, it is as if we opened the door of our hearts to the devil. The devil can come in and easily take away the seeds sown in our hearts because we are not treasuring them<\/b>.<\/h2>\n

What prevents us from loving God? The root cause is our sins.<\/b> For the most part, our sinful nature stems from our self-centeredness<\/i>. Self-centeredness<\/b> allows Satan to use his first weapon, diversions<\/b>, to break into our hearts. He uses tactics like attachments to all sorts of temporal and lesser things to distract us from choosing the better part<\/b> as in the story of Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42).<\/h2>\n

So, we must not allow sin to take root in our hearts lest it will bear a very tenacious and toxic fruit – indifference<\/b>.<\/h1>\n

If we keep on immersing ourselves in a life of sin (big or small) and cluttering our mind with evil thoughts, we allow ourselves to fall into one of Satan\u2019s deadliest traps leading to a dead end. Our hearts will become so parched that it will crack and nothing fruitful will grow out of it.<\/h2>\n

The Purpose of Parables.<\/strong>

But here he sounds like he wants to reserve his words to a special group. The Catechism<\/i> explains, \u201cThrough his parables he invites people to the feast of the kingdom, but he also asks for a radical choice: to gain the kingdom, one must give everything. Words are not enough, deeds are required\u2026 One must enter the kingdom, that is, become a disciple of Christ, in order to ‘know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven’. For those who stay ‘outside’, everything remains enigmatic.\u201d (CCC 546)<\/h2>\n
