We talked about diversion yesterday, which is one of the two most successful weapons that the devil uses to steal the Word of God from us. The other weapon is indifference.
\nDo you have a favorite sports team, a favorite singer, or a favorite TV show? When people ask you about something you love, you can talk about it non-stop. When it comes to something we love, we can never get enough; when it comes to someone we love, we always want to get closer. When a person is indifferent to the core, he lacks interest and passion toward everything except himself.<\/h2>\n

Let us be honest with ourselves. Am I willing to get closer to Jesus, or do I rather stay where I am? If I want to keep a distance from Jesus deliberately, what does that mean?<\/h2>\n

Jesus says: \u201cI know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.\u201d (Revelation 3:15-16)<\/h2>\n

To be a disciple of Jesus, we cannot \u201cserve two masters\u201d (see Matthew 6:24) – we can no longer be our own masters, Jesus alone is our master. A lukewarm faith is not an authentic Christian faith.<\/h2>\n

Once we fall into the temptation of being our own masters, it tramples the soil of our hearts and makes it grow harder and harder, making it impossible for the Word – that is, Jesus – to enter.<\/h1>\n

But here he sounds like he wants to reserve his words to a special group. The Catechism<\/i> explains, \u201cThrough his parables he invites people to the feast of the kingdom, but he also asks for a radical choice: to gain the kingdom, one must give everything. Words are not enough, deeds are required\u2026 One must enter the kingdom, that is, become a disciple of Christ, in order to ‘know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven’. For those who stay ‘outside’, everything remains enigmatic.\u201d (CCC 546)<\/h2>\n
