To be able to make choices freely is God's great gift to humankind. \u201cFreedom characterizes properly human acts. It makes the human being responsible for acts of which he is the voluntary agent. His deliberate acts properly belong to him.\u201d (Catechism of the Catholic Church<\/i> 1745)<\/h2>\n

In an Angelus address<\/a><\/span>, Pope Benedict XVI mentioned that Jesus' use of parables\u00a0 demands the effort of interpretation, challenges the mind but also freedom of those who listen. The pope explains further: \u201cGod's true 'Parable' is Jesus himself, his Person who, in the sign of humanity, hides and at the same time reveals his divinity. In this manner God does not force us to believe in him but attracts us to him with the truth and goodness of his incarnate Son: love, in fact, always respects freedom.\u201d<\/h2>\n

But here he sounds like he wants to reserve his words to a special group. The Catechism<\/i> explains, \u201cThrough his parables he invites people to the feast of the kingdom, but he also asks for a radical choice: to gain the kingdom, one must give everything. Words are not enough, deeds are required\u2026 One must enter the kingdom, that is, become a disciple of Christ, in order to ‘know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven’. For those who stay ‘outside’, everything remains enigmatic.\u201d (CCC 546)<\/h2>\n
