Based on Mary\u2019s reaction of being \u201cmuch perplexed\u201d when greeted by the angel Gabriel, it is highly unlikely that God has given her any hint or warning beforehand (ref. Luke 1:29). Therefore, it is reasonable for us to conclude that Mary is not psychologically prepared for such a shocking invitation from God. Since she is already engaged to Joseph, we can also conclude that she must have made a plan for herself. God\u2019s unexpected intervention, indeed, has completely upset the original plan of Mary and Joseph. In fact, Mary was determined to remain a virgin for God, the rest of her life, when she was only a teenager. God interrupted her plan and asked her to bear a child, a difficult and awkward request indeed, and to raise not just an ordinary child but the Son of God. That seems like a responsibility beyond human ability! Yet, Mary says \u201cyes\u201d to God\u2019s shocking invitation without hesitation nor delay! The equally shocking speed of Mary\u2019s response has revealed one of her important characteristics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, Chapter 55, Verses 8 to 9, God said,<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial author=&#8221;(Isaiah 55:8-9)&#8221; disabled_on=&#8221;off|off|off&#8221; admin_label=&#8221;Bible verse&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; body_text_color=&#8221;#FFFFFF&#8221; author_text_color=&#8221;#FFFFFF&#8221; background_color=&#8221;#d43b3e&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;bounce&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If the distance between God\u2019s thoughts and ways and ours is so vast, knowing that He will invite each one of us, it is inevitable that throughout our lives, He will ask us to do something that may not be our preference. <strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Whether we can hear His invitation and respond to Him positively is dependent upon our attitude. We can certainly learn from our Mother Mary.\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When faced with unexpected changes in life, if Mary was rigid and stubborn instead of being <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>open<\/strong><\/span>, she would not be able to respond positively to God&#8217;s unanticipated invitation!<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong> If we decide to \u201clive for God\u201d, we need to cooperate with God\u2019s plan, follow His will with all our hearts, and allow Him to intervene in our lives according to His schedule. Such \u201cflexibility\u201d is the key to whether we are able to allow God\u2019s plan to be fulfilled through us.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When we allow for God\u2019s intervention in our lives, we are also letting God intervene in our lives through other people, which may alter the short- or long-term direction and trajectory of our lives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>This idea may seem terrifying; however, this is the key to whether we can become God\u2019s \u201chandy\u201d instruments. Unfortunately, most of us are often unwilling to let God, His truth, and those who are sent by God, \u201cdisrupt\u201d our lives and everyday life. This has created a barrier to promoting God\u2019s plan on earth! If we are uncooperative or unwilling to compromise, we will become a barrier to progress!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The culprit of our rigidity and stubbornness is our <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>overpowering personal preferences and likes\/dislikes<\/strong><\/span>. Such preferences have often become our <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>\u201cattachments\u201d<\/strong><\/span> that prevent us from recognizing the truth and entirety of facts, and hinder us from receiving God\u2019s prompts and messages for us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/lent.fll.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/hope.jpg&#8221; title_text=&#8221;hope&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;zoom&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Since God\u2019s thoughts and ways are often different from ours, it is difficult for us to hear God\u2019s messages accurately; coupled with our personal preferences, it is even harder for us to hear God\u2019s invitations, let alone responding positively to His invitations!<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If we want to be useful instruments in God\u2019s hand, we must examine our life\u2019s preferences,<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>since these preferences can often prevent us from making decisions that are pleasing to God; hence, making it difficult for us to accept God\u2019s invitation with <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>a submissive heart<\/strong><\/span>, and causing us to miss the opportunity to collaborate with God and participate in His \u201csalvific plan\u201d. God will certainly be disappointed and His heart will be broken!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.8.2&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; I know that I have disappointed You so many times in the past. Please forgive me. Teach me how to let go of my baggage of preferences so that I may be free to observe Your will in all I do. I am willing to learn from and follow the example of Mary, our Holy Mother, so that I may be able to say to You without hesitation, \u201cLet it be with me according to your word!\u201d (Luke 1:38) For this I pray in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.<\/p>\n<p>Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
