one that empowers us to respond to God and God\u2019s gift of life to us with an \u201cunfading desire\u201d.\u00a0 The reflection on Day 28 examines how our \u201cattachment\u201d to people and things other than God can become a stumbling block for us as we strive to live the most wonderful and abundant life possible.\u00a0 Today, we will focus on other types of attachment and their impact on us.<\/p>\n<p>Our enemy often takes advantage of our weaknesses; when it fails to tempt us with the usual \u201cattachments\u201d, it switches to the tactic of turning our good intentions into fetters that prevent us from seeking God.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We need to understand one basic principle: <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>God does not necessarily want us to do every single good deed. <\/strong><\/span>\u00a0This is because the thoughts of God are not ours, neither are our ways God\u2019s (ref. Isaiah 55:8-9).\u00a0 Therefore, before we decide to do a good deed, we must not assume that it is God\u2019s will that we are the ones to carry it out. <strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080;\">You see, we are not the only \u201cinstrument\u201d in God\u2019s plan. <\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The same \u201cgood deed\u201d may not be God\u2019s will for us but perhaps, is His will for someone else.\u00a0 In fact, Jesus\u2019 humility is revealed in His decision of not spending His time on earth on all the \u201cgood deeds\u201d.\u00a0 Jesus understands that He could not do all the \u201cgood deeds\u201d for everyone; therefore, He only focuses on the \u201cgood deeds\u201d that His Father commands, which is the \u201cbetter part\u201d for Him! He has done everything according to His Father\u2019s will; no more, no less.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">God has already endowed us with the necessary strength to complete certain good deeds; as well, He has laid out the scope and schedule for completing these good deeds.<\/span> <\/strong>We cannot discern the mission that God has entrusted to us, or the duties of the moment, simply based on what we see on the surface. Otherwise, we may unknowingly fall victims to our enemy\u2019s snare and go against God\u2019s will.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In addition, we must examine our motivation for doing these good deeds.\u00a0 For instance, our desire to be a \u201cnice guy\u201d or \u201cnice gal\u201d is never a valid motivation because this will lead us into the trap of \u201cpride\u201d.\u00a0 As well, we need to be aware that the \u201csatisfaction\u201d brought about by doing good deeds can also become an addiction for us<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>In fact, it is not uncommon to see many of us, as well as our families and friends, commit to helping others out of our \u201cloyalty\u201d to others; however, this often results in chaos or other unnecessary conflicts.\u00a0 Therefore, we must take heart of the considerations and discernment required for every good deed.\u00a0 For everyone who seeks \u201corder\u201d, this is one insight that cannot be overlooked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Therefore, we may observe that the cunning and crafty devil will utilize both bad and good things to \u201cdistract\u201d us; blinding us and turning us away from the choice of the \u201cbetter part\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/lent.fll.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/peace.jpg&#8221; title_text=&#8221;peace&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Being deluded, we are living under the illusion of a \u201cmeaningful life\u201d; spending all of our energy and time on \u201cmany things\u201d; wasting our life away with our busy-ness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These other types of \u201cattachment\u201d often become our \u201cpreference\u201d in life; even becoming our \u201cidols\u201d or other \u201cgods\u201d,\u00a0 that lure our gaze away from God.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Therefore, we must nurture a unique sensitivity; an awareness that is imperative for us to \u201ctame\u201d our \u201cpreference\u201d.\u00a0 One of the most effective ways is to practise an attitude of \u201choly indifference\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHoly indifference\u201d is key to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.\u00a0 Let us reflect on \u201cTHE FIRST PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION\u201d of\u00a0 The Spiritual Exercises, #23:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial author=&#8221;(St. Ignatius Loyola as paraphrased by David L. God, who loves us, gave us life. Our own response of love allows God&#8217;s life to flow into us without limit. All the things in this world are gifts of God, presented to us so that we can know God more easily and make a return of love more readily. As a result, we appreciate and use all these gifts of God insofar as they help us develop as loving persons. But if any of these gifts become the centre of our lives, they displace God and so hinder our growth toward our goal. In everyday life, then, we must hold ourselves in balance before all of these created gifts insofar as we have a choice and are not bound by some obligation. We should not fix our desires on health or sickness, wealth or poverty, success or failure, a long life or short one. For everything has the potential of calling forth in us a deeper response to our life in God. Our only desire and our one choice should be this: I want and I choose what better leads to the deepening of God\u2019s life in me. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Only when we fix our gaze on our Creator God as His creation and earnestly quest for our life\u2019s purpose as such, we would be able to use the proper lens and attitude to tackle and face the things and choices that are presented before us.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We should choose and use the things that help us achieve our life\u2019s purpose and give up or renounce those that don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If we can maintain an attitude of \u201choly indifference\u201d every moment of our life, we will be able to choose \u201cthe better part\u201d with peace and impartiality; living out the true spirit of Christ and a sanctified life that can glorify God and benefit others!<\/p>\n<p>If we strive to live by this spirit, we will be able to arrive at the state of \u201cbeing indifferent to all kinds of worldly attachment\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Blockquote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;fold&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In this space, nothing can stop us from doing our best, without reservation nor regret, to fulfil whatever God has asked of us.\u00a0\u00a0 Even when God asks us to remove ourselves from the work at hand, no matter how fruitful we may think it is or how unwilling we are to let it go, we will be able to accept God\u2019s will and lay down the work with \u201choly indifference\u201d, and await the next assignment from God. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.6&#8243;
