Day 19 (Mar 18)
– Don't worry

Day 19 (Mar 18)
Don't worry

What kinds of worries or cares are you facing today?

Trust the past to the mercy of God, the present to His love, and the future to His providence.”

- St. Augustine of Hippo

Jesus said “worldly anxiety” is enough to choke His Word from growing in us (Mark 4:19).

It is rather normal to worry about our needs because we are not self-sufficient. We depend on daily necessities to survive, such as food, clothing and shelter. These in turn depend on external circumstances, such as good weather for farmers’ harvest; good health and a job for parents who work to provide for their families; and an ongoing income for us to pay the bills. Anything that may go wrong, can easily make us worry!

The truth is God knows all our needs, and He is a good Father who provides!

Jesus' Sermon on the Mount reinforced this truth. He said, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26)

God doesn’t want us to worry, and we can depend on Him as we walk with Him. This is the remedy against all the cares and worries of this world.

The key is, as Jesus promised, to “seek first for the kingdom [of God] and His righteousness, and all these things [that you need] will be given you”. (Matthew 6:33)

Thus uproot these cares and worries by trusting in God, and let God lead our way of life.

“Do not be afraid to abandon yourself unreservedly to His loving providence, for a child cannot perish in the arms of a Father who is omnipotent.” – St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

REFLECTION:

What are the cares and worries of the world that prevents me from following Jesus more closely?

TODAY'S PRAYER

Lord, may I cast all my worries on to You, for You care for me! (see 1 Peter 5:7)

As my response to your invitation, Lord, I would read and meditate on Matthew 6:25-34, and list out all the worries that bother me at the moment, and surrender them all to you in prayer: “Jesus, I surrender my life and my worries to You, please take care of everything!”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Matthew 6:25-34
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?
Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?'or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?' All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom [of God] and his righteousness,* and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry
